Free SMS alert from Gmail for new or important email You are waiting for an important email from your wife or your manager, however you cannot not online regularly to check it. Do not worry and let Google send you a SMS when the email comes. In these below steps, I will show you how to manage it in a very easy way and of course FREE of charge.

I. Set up Google Calendar to make free SMS reminder
1. Sign in to your Google Calendar
2. Click on Gear button > select Settings

   
3. Click on Mobile Setup > select your Country > input your Phone number > click on Send Verification Code

4. Enter the code you received via SMS in the Verification Code field > click Finish setup
5. It will take you to Reminders and Notifications tab. Now select SMS option then click on Save button.

II. Configuring Gmail to create Label and Filter
1. Sign in to your Gmail
2. Click on Gear button > select Settings
   
3. Go to Labels tab > move down and click on Create new label.

4. Enter new label as “sendsms” > click Create.
   
5. Now click on the Filters tab > click on Create a new filter

6. Now for you to choose:
  • If you would like Gmail to send SMS alert only for email from an important sender such as your wife, enter her email address in the ‘From’ field.

   
  • If you would like Gmail to send SMS alert for all new emails, enter “is:inbox” in the ‘Has the words’ field.

   
  • If you would like Gmail to send SMS alert for all new emails except social mails and promotions mails, enter “is:inbox” in the ‘Has the words’ field and in the "Doesn't have" field enter “category:social,category:promotions

7. Click Create filter with this search
8. Then mark “Apply the label” > select “sendsms” > click “Create filter”.
   

III. Configuring Google Docs
1. Sign in to your Google Docs.
2. Click here to make copy of the spreadsheet. Click “Yes, make a copy
   
3. Navigate to Tools > Script Editor.
   
4. It will take you to a new window, then select Resources > Current project’s triggers.
   
5. Click on “Add a new trigger

6. At the Events field select Time-Driven > Minutes timer > Every minute. Finally click Save.

7. Click on “Continue” to authorize it and click Save again.
   
8. Now click on Save icon then close this window.
   
9. Turn to the spread window and navigate to Gmail SMS Alerts tab > select Authorize

10. Click on OK
   
11. Click on Accept
   

Now you can close all windows and enjoy your free SMS alert from Gmail for new email.
